Led by Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, Attorneys General in 17 states defended an Indiana law Thursday thatrequires abortion facilities to offer women the chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn baby prior to their abortion.

The state leaders submitted their brief this week to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Huntingdon News reports. Planned Parenthood challenged the law in 2016, and a 7th-Circuit panel sided with the abortion chain in July.

Additionally, Landry has joined 15 other Republican attorneys general and governors asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reject workplace protections that would prevent transgender people from being fired for their gender identity.

Landry signed onto a legal brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling that determined a Michigan woman was unlawfully fired from the funeral home where she worked for being transgender. The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that federal laws prohibiting discrimination based on sex protected her and that her employer's religious beliefs cannot be used to justify her firing.

Response to an Advocate "Letter to the Editor"

In regards to The Advocate's recent response to Attorney General Jeff Landry's request for the rule of law regarding the death penalty, I would like to ask the following questions. Does The Advocate not consider the victim of crimes where the death penalty has been ruled? The response to an act so barbaric that necessitates the use of the death penalty is for coddling? When someone commits first degree murder here in the State of Louisiana, the death penalty is a punishment option and is usually reserved for the most heinous acts. But, according the The Advocate and Gov. John Bel Edwards, no effort should be made to hold those that commit these barbaric acts to account.

Also, The Advocate has called Attorney General Landry's attempts to enforce the rule of law as a political ploy. I hold that the Governor's insistence on ensuring that the death penalty not be enforced is the political ploy in this whole saga. If the Governor would make an ample attempt to work with our AG on ensuring that laws are enforced, then this whole issue would be mute. However, this is kowtowing to political liberal interests and his efforts and legitimizing his office at the expense of the citizens of Louisiana.

Louisiana elected what was termed a "conservative" candidate when they voted for JBE. What we are finding out is that he is nothing more than another tax and spend liberal and the Cajun version of Barack Obama.

Landry: Give Murders Death Penalty Gov Edwards: Hug-A-Convict

Citizens for Louisiana Job Creators issued the following statement regarding the dispute between AG Jeff Landry and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards on executions in the state:

Attorney General Jeff Landry is once again standing up for victims of violent crime and exposing Governor John Bel Edwards for being weak on crime when it comes to punishing some of the most heinous criminals in the state.

Recently, the Governor voluntarily stayed the executions of some 70 convicted murderers currently sitting on death row in Louisiana, blaming a federal case that has prevented Louisiana from carrying out the death penalty since 2010.

Instead of working with General Landry and the Louisiana Department of Justice to find alternative options that would allow the state to carry out these executions, and obtain justice for victims and their families, Governor Edwards has refused justice for victims and adopted soft policies on punishing criminals.

Thank you, General Landry, for having the courage to fight for justice on behalf of victims who cannot fight for themselves.

LANDRY: In Combating Government Mismanagement and Medicaid, Trust But Verify

Louisiana State Auditor Darryl Purpera said it best: "We've got a mess right now." And indeed we do. Recent Louisiana Legislative Auditor findings were quite scathing when it comes to Governor Edwards teams ability to manage the Department of Health. The Legislative Auditor exposes carelessness with tax payers dollars through lack of oversight, lazy record keeping and a whole host of other infractions of the $12 billion dollar program.

Attorney General Jeff Landry has long been a vocal advocate for addressing the Medicaid problems and rooting out fraud, waste, and abuse in the program. During the 2018 regular legislative session AG Landry worked with conservative lawmakers to introduce legislation that would have allowed the AGs office to investigate Medicaid recipients who falsified information on their Medicaid applications. This effort was killed by cronies of the Edwards administration when they accused these lawmakers of waging war on the poor. Now that the legislative auditors report has been released, the administration can not longer hide behind their facades.

In an recent Hayride article, Attorney General Landry discusses the recent audit findings. Thank you General Landry for pledging to continue the fight in protecting Louisiana taxpayers and holding the administration accountable!

LANDRY: Despite Media’s ‘Shameful Propaganda Effort,’ Congress Must Stop Illegal Immigration

“There are facts and there is hyperbole; and the mainstream media has recently chosen to go with full-blown hyperbole by deceptively showing videos of unaccompanied minors as though they were children separated from their parents after illegally crossing the border together. They have repeatedly played videos edited for dramatic effect and audio yet to be authenticated as infallible. This propaganda effort by the mainstream media is shameful.”

Citizens for Louisiana Job Creators: AG Landry Locks Up Illegal Immigrant

Another illegal immigrant engaged in illegal activity. Wilfred Antonio Ramos-Medoza of Jefferson, Louisiana was arrested for his involvement in a scheme of using counterfeit parts to repair airbags, and in one instance, reinserted a used airbag and covered it up with a counterfeit airbag cover.

Working with President Trump's team to take Illegal's off the streets, Attorney General Jeff Landry and the Federal Homeland Security Investigators arrested Ramos-Medoza and booked him with the Illegal Use of Counterfeit Trademark.

Attorney General Jeff Landry has repeatedly called for laws to be enacted that would help protect Louisiana's citizens from illegal aliens and this is just one more example of why these laws are desperately needed.

Thank you General Landry for continuing to protect the citizens of Louisiana against crime and fighting to keep illegals off our streets.

LANDRY: Chicago Is Holding American Law Enforcement Hostage

The Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher, famously said: “In order to be considered truly free, countries must also have a deep love of liberty and an abiding respect for the rule of law.” Fortunately for the people of our nation, President Donald Trump has heeded these words of wisdom.

Unlike his predecessor, whose blatant disregard for the rule of law on immigration exacerbated the proliferation of sanctuary cities, President Trump and his administration have honored their oaths to enforce our immigration laws and protect our borders.

In keeping with this promise, Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave notice to law enforcement agencies receiving certain grant dollars that they must comply with federal law and with two conditions aimed at increasing the government’s ability to locate and deport criminal aliens preying on American citizens.

These conditions are in accord with established federal jurisprudence that “the Tenth Amendment does not give States and their subdivisions an untrammeled right to forbid all voluntary cooperation by state or local officials with particular federal programs,” especially in the information sharing context.

Requiring agencies to notify the Department of Homeland Security of the scheduled release dates of criminal aliens wanted by DHS and to allow federal immigration officers on their premises in order to inquire about an individual’s right to remain are common-sense public safety measures.

In July 2016, the Department of Justice Inspector General released a memorandum noting that many jurisdictions receiving federal grant dollars were in violation of the law by withholding immigration information from federal officials. Shortly thereafter, the Department of Justice mandated a particular condition that jurisdictions offer proof that they were in compliance with federal law regarding information sharing.

Attorney General Sessions simply sustained that policy by including narrowly-tailored conditions to ensure these grant dollars are not given to state and local jurisdictions which frustrate federal immigration enforcement. However, in order to score political points, some of our nation’s largest cities decided to obstruct. And the City of Chicago took their prioritization of protecting illegal immigrants over stopping crime to the courtroom.

Chicago sued the Department of Justice, and the liberal district court and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals decided that Attorney General Sessions lacked the authority to impose these two conditions. While their disrespect for the Constitution was egregious enough, their further abuse of the judicial process is causing even more widespread harm.

The nationwide injunction issued by federal courts means that hundreds of millions of grant dollars are being withheld from law enforcement agencies which comply willingly with immigration laws. Because of its nationwide scope, the injunction purports to settle the law for the entire United States. This aggrandizement of power deprives other courts the opportunity to decide the issue for themselves and thereby frustrates the development of law.

The nationwide injunction has essentially blocked the Department of Justice from issuing any funding from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) Program. This critical program finances several law enforcement measures such as victim assistance, crisis intervention, body cameras, Tasers and officer overtime pay. The withholding of its funds restrict activities or, in some cases, cause operations to cease entirely.

A recent Harvard-Harris Poll found that Americans strongly support the Trump administration’s actions to reverse the policies of sanctuary jurisdictions. The survey found 80 percent of voters agreed that state and local authorities should cooperate with and report illegal immigrants to federal authorities.

So I join not only the overwhelming majority of American voters, but also the over 3,000 sheriff offices across our country in support of the USDOJ’s position to uphold the rule of law.

Whatever the result of the Chicago action, the court’s relief should not be allowed to affect thousands of others nationwide. Chicago should not hold hostage law enforcement who agree with the conditions and uphold the rule of law.

Jeff Landry is the attorney general of the state of Louisiana. He previously served as a member of Louisiana’s delegation to U.S. House of Representatives.

Citizens for Louisiana Job Creators: AG Landry Fights Opioid Crisis

Last week, Attorney General Jeff Landry took the fight against the Opioid crisis to the front lines. Thanks to recent legislation authored by Sen. Fred Mills and a partnership between the Attorney Generals office and British pharmaceutical company Mallinckrodt, hospice providers will have the authority and the tool necessary to dispose of deceased patients opioids.

Mallinckrodt has donated 30,000 bags that, once an opioid is placed into the environmentally safe, drug-deactivating pouches, it becomes house-hold waste. This technology, and the authority for hospice professionals to utilize it is a huge step in combating the Opioid epidemic that plagues Louisiana. 60% of all Opioid addictions begin by using someone else's prescription.

Louisiana currently has more Opioid prescriptions than it does residents. Thanks to the leadership of AG Jeff Landry, Louisiana is making incredible strides to change the Opioid epidemics narrative.

What You Won't Hear About Alton Sterling Today

Today, Attorney General Jeff Landry declined prosecution of officers that were involved in the 2016 shooting of Alton Sterling outside of a business on the north side of the city.  Throughout the coming days, you'll hear the liberal mainstream media drone on and on regarding the shooting with excuses for Landry not pursuing prosecution, such as political motivation.  However, what you won't hear are some of the facts of this case.

First, Sterling had an obscene amount of drugs and alcohol in his system.  From the AG report, the following was found during the autopsy:

A toxicology test (Exhibit C) was conducted during the autopsy and the results indicated Sterling’s chest blood tested positive for the following substances:

-          Ethanol (29 mg/dL)

-          Blood Alcohol Concentrate (BAC 0.029 g/100mL)

-          Benzoylecgonine (130 ng/mL)

-          Cocaine (26 ng/mL)

-          Amphetamine (23 ng/mL)

-          Methamphetamine (280 ng/mL)

-          Delta-9 Carboxy THC (13ng/mL)

-          Delta 9 THC (3.8 ng/mL)

Additionally, Sterling’s urine tested positive for Opioids, Cocaine, Cannabinoids (THC), Amphetamines, and Fentanyl.

The toxicology report indicated that blood levels of 200-600 ng/mL have been associated with methamphetamine abusers who exhibited violent and irrational behavior. Sterling’s blood level for Methamphetamine was (280 ng/mL) which placed him in this category.

The toxicology of Alton Sterling clearly indicated that he was under the influence of a combination of illegal substances.

Secondly, the report highlights Sterling's extensive history of interactions with law enforcement and a criminal history.  In one particular case, the circumstances are very similar to the facts of the current investigation.

This incident was documented by the Baton Rouge Police Department under item number 09-00054712 and, other than a seven year difference, mirrors the exact incident that occurred on July 5, 2016 in all but the outcome.

On May 29, 2009, Baton Rouge Police Officer Timothy Daigre responded to a call for service at 999 Rosenwald Street, Baton Rouge, LA. The complainant, identified as Anthonia Anderson B/M, DOB: 04/12/1980, reported that earlier in the evening on May 29, 2009, he had been driving and was approached by Alton Sterling who produced a dark colored handgun and pointed it at him and his passenger.

After being given this information Officer Daigre was directed to where Alton Sterling was selling contraband CDs. This location was identified as 1375 Rosenwald Street, the Scotlandville Grocery Store.

Officer Daigre relocated to this location and observed an individual who matched the description provided by the victim as Alton Sterling. Upon the officers approach Alton Sterling was carrying a milk crate full of music CDs.

The officer asked Alton Sterling if he had any weapons.

Alton Sterling did not answer the officer, and was instructed put the milk crate on the ground and place his hands on the officer’s marked patrol unit. Alton Sterling complied with the officer instructions.

Officer Daigre began to conduct a Terry frisk, a pat down, of Alton Sterling’s outer clothing for officer safety. As Officer Daigre began this frisk, he noticed Alton Sterling removed his left hand from the hood of the marked unit and moved his hand toward his left front pants pocket.

Officer Daigre stopped Sterling from going into the pocket, and told him (Alton Sterling) to keep his hands on the hood of the vehicle.

At this time, Sterling ignored the officer’s instructions, spun away from where the officer was attempting to conduct his frisk, and tried to flee from the officer. Officer Daigre grabbed Sterling by the shirt and was able to push him to the ground. During this process, he was giving loud verbal instructions to Sterling to stop resisting.

Once on the ground, Officer Daigre attempted to gain positive control of Alton Sterling, giving him instructions to stop resisting.

During his attempt to restrain Sterling, the officer was able to use his radio and summon assistance.

As the struggle continued, a black semi-automatic 9mm handgun fell from Alton Sterling’s waistband.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Dain Lewis had heard the officers call for assistance and responded. Upon arrival, Deputy Lewis helped subdue Sterling and his resistance was brought to an end.

Alton Sterling was subsequently arrested for the following charges: 40:966C Possession of a firearm while in possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, to wit: Marijuana; 14:37 Aggravated Assault; 14:108 resisting arrest; and 14:69.1 Possession of a stolen firearm.

The full report regarding this incident can be found here.

Louisiana Citizens for Job Creators: AG Landry Victory Against Transgender Expansion

Attorney General Jeff Landry has won yet another legal battle against Governor John Bel Edwards. Landry challenged Edward’s executive order expanding LGBT benefits for state workers. Landry believed the order exceeded Edward’s authority.

A three-judge panel of Louisiana’s 1st Circuit Court of Appeal ruled unanimously. The executive order was an unconstitutional attempt to expand state law.

Landry said, “We have stated all along that the Governor must follow the law, just like everybody else. This ruling affirms a notion of basic civics that the Legislature makes the law, not the Governor.”

We commend Attorney General Landry on his on this victory as he continues to execute his authority as the state’s chief legal officer.
