LOUISIANA FAMILY FORUM: Landry Tells Garland: “Stand Down” on Disinformation & Threats

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry signed a coalition letter along with 12 other state AGs to Merrick Garland and the DOJ in response to radical medical associations sending their own letter to the same recipient, demanding a crackdown on “disinformation” regarding child mutilation surgeries.

On October 3, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Children’s Hospital Association asked the DOJ to investigate the parties responsible for “coordinating, provoking and carrying out bomb threats and threats of personal violence.” They blamed “an intentional campaign of disinformation, where a few high-profile users on social media share false and misleading information.”

Landry and others, however, warn that the October 3 letter is an effort to crack down on critics of child mutilation surgeries and hospitals and clinics that abuse children in this way. In their response letter, the state AGs remind Garland that “Silencing critics of current gender dysphoria treatment practices for minors will not make children any safer or healthier. Instead, it will lead to bad decision-making and erode public confidence in both the federal government and the medical community.”

Chairman Louis Gurvich: Democrats' Are No Longer Capable Of Running A Government

Last month, I reported on the terrible situation regarding inflation. Welcome back to last month, because the consumer price index (CPI) for this month is 8.2%, virtually unchanged from last month’s 8.3%. The 8.2% increase is much worse than economists had expected. It proves that no real progress has been made in the war against inflation, despite the passing of thirty more days and another steep hike in the federal funds rate. In fact, the CPI went up .4% in September alone, even after all the previous rate hike increases!

To recap from my previous article, the CPI is the measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services. You can pick and choose what’s in the basket, but the goods and services which you put in the basket must remain the same over time so that you can compare their cost over time. Every now and then, you add up all the prices for all the goods and services in the basket. If the prices go up, we call that inflation. If the prices go down, we call that deflation, but as long as Joe Biden and the Democrats are running the government, don’t worry about deflation.

To better illustrate what inflation is and what it does, look at it this way: You have a dollar in your pocket, OK. It looks just like the dollars you had in your pocket last month. It could even be one of the same dollars you had in your pocket last month. That dollar bill hasn’t changed, but the amount of goods and services it buys can change, especially if you are being governed by incompetent leftist ideologues who do not understand or even care about basic economics.

To further illustrate, if I purchased a gallon of gas at the pump in January, 2021, for $2.25 per gallon, and then I have to pay $3.91 for a gallon of the same gas in October, 2022, the dollar and sixty-six cent difference is inflation, and the seventy-four percent change in price is the inflation rate. Likewise for an apple which goes up by five cents, or a lawnmower which goes up by $50, or a service like mowing your lawn which goes up by $10 a week.

Now here’s inflation’s dirty little trick: Recall that the CPI went up by 8.2% over the same time last year. You could say that prices went up 8.2%, or the purchasing power of your dollars went down by 8.2%- it’s the same thing, actually. That dollar bill in your pocket can now buy only 91.8 cents in goods and services. That $10,000 in savings that you worked so hard to accumulate is now worth only $9,180. Maybe you received a raise over the last year to make up for some or all of your lost purchasing power, but you still lost 8.2% of every dollar you own.

How is that possible, you may ask? Annual inflation  was under 2% when Donald Trump was president less than two years ago. What happened? Joe Biden and Progressive Democrat control of Congress happened. Elected as a “moderate“ Democrat, Joe has been anything but moderate, and the Democrat Party is now effectively run by Progressive Socialists (read ‘Marxists’), who do not understand or care about traditional economics.

Against the advice of virtually every sane economist in the United States, Biden and the Progressive Democrats have continued to spend trillions and trillions of dollars at a relentless pace since the day they took office, all in the name of equity, green energy, pandemic relief, and any other woke causes they could think of. And once you start flooding an economy with trillions and trillions of dollars, prices go up. There is simply too much money chasing a limited number of goods and services, so people start paying a little more to get what they want while it’s still available. That’s what causes inflation, and it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

But Biden and the Progressive Democrats will keep on spending until they are stopped by the voters of this great nation, or the United States effectively goes broke and our economy is virtually destroyed. That’s what woke Progressive Democrats do because they don’t understand anything about business or economics as so few of them have ever held a real job. You don’t get real-life business experience as a community activist or a government bureaucrat.

Their incompetence is stealing the purchasing power of our hard-earned money right out of our pockets, every minute of every day. Here it gets a bit complicated, because to bring down inflation caused by the President and Congress, another branch of the government, the Federal Reserve, must continue to sharply raise interest rates in order to cool down the economy and reduce demand. We are now virtually assured of huge rate hikes (.75% per month?) through the end of the year and likely beyond.

Borrowing money to buy a house, finance a business, or just to pay our bills, has already become a lot more expensive, but it’s about to get worse. People will therefore buy fewer houses, cars, refrigerators, etc., and as businesses get hurt, they will be forced to lay off workers. In all likelihood, millions of our fellow citizens are soon going to be out of a job, and almost everyone’s real wages will go down as the current recession bites deeper and deeper into our daily lives.

The really big deal about today’s inflation number is that from here on out the economic news will be almost universally bad for quite a while. It is therefore no longer possible for good economic news (of which there is precious little anyway) to avert the Democrats looming date with political disaster. Their chickens are coming home to roost and there will be a lot of bloody feathers on the ground late on the night of November 8th.

As I wrote last month, this awful mess should make you mad, because it was all foreseeable and avoidable, but Joe Biden and the Progressive Democrats had higher priorities than you, your family, and your country. However, you can stop this insanity by voting Republican on Tuesday, November 8th!

Kennedy meets with Baton Rouge Rotary: “I believe in what we accomplished. We can do it again.”

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) spent the morning with the Baton Rouge Sunrise Rotary Club, taking questions from Louisianians on issues related to the economy, federal regulation and appropriations that the senator and delegation have secured for Louisiana.

“I believe in what we accomplished—and I participated in that—when my party had control of the House and the Senate and the presidency . . . We cut taxes. We increased wages. People at the lower end of the wage scale saw their wages go up twice as fast as those at the upper end of the wage scale, but all wages went up,” said Kennedy.

“We delivered out of that four-year period 3.4 percent unemployment. We had the lowest unemployment out of the history of our country for African Americans and for Hispanic Americans. . . . We created 8 million new jobs pre-COVID—and those were real jobs, brand new jobs, not jobs that were lost because the government shut down our economy and then the jobs came back. Those were new jobs,” he continued.

Kennedy also addressed education, saying, “I believe that no parent—no parent—should be required to send their child to a failing school, where violence is common and learning is rare.”

The senator outlined the hope he sees for the state by recalling the successes of just a few years ago under Republican leadership.

“We deregulated the economy. We beat back ISIS. We completely revamped veterans’ health care to give them the health care they deserve. We secured the border. We secured our streets. We controlled inflation. During those four years, we strengthened the military. For the first time in my lifetime, we stood up to China . . . and we can do it again.”

FROM IBERIA TO ST. MARY, WE DON’T NEED MISGUIDED LEGAL ACTION

The Daily Iberian

In Louisiana, we have prided ourselves on creating energy for the world for more than a century. Energy production is not only critical to our state’s economy and local communities,

but also essential for our coastal protection efforts.

In fact, the only continuous source of funding for Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan comes from oil and natural gas production on and off our shores. Since 2017, oil and natural gas companies have generated $415 million directly for state coastal building initiatives, according to the state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. In addition, energy leaders like Shell, Chevron and ExxonMobil invest millions of dollars into storm protection and coastal restoration efforts across Louisiana.

Even so, discussions have occurred in St. Mary, St. Martin and Iberia parishes about joining legal action against our state’s largest employer and number one private contributor of coastal restoration dollars—the oil and natural gas industry. The Freeport McMoran “settlement scheme” was created by a small group of trial lawyers and a company that no longer has any footprint or employees in Louisiana. Luckily, our local elected officials saw through the mirage.

For nearly a decade, these trial lawyers have pushed misguided litigation against Louisiana’s energy industry in our parishes and still have nothing to show for it. Terrebonne, Lafourche and Vermilion Parishes have all firmly stated they are against this misguided legal action. Statewide, the “settlement scheme” has failed at the Louisiana legislature twice already and a resolution explicitly opposing the lawsuits has passed both chambers.

Most recently, the St. Mary Parish Council voted down a resolution to support the settlement and refused to take legal action against the industry. During the council meeting, Councilman Scott Ramsey said, “These lawsuits have hurt Louisiana and they are going to hurt St. Mary Parish if we participate in this. The only ones that come out in this deal are the trial attorneys and they stand to make millions.” Parish President David Hanagriff said that he was on record for being against the legal action.

District Attorney Bo Duhe even stated at the meeting, “I said it from the very beginning that I would not file a lawsuit against these companies. My family has had oil and gas production on properties since the 1930’s. I realize how important an industry this is. I realize the benefit it has brought to our communities.”

DA Duhe further added, “I will continue to stay by this statement that I have not filed a lawsuit, I won’t file a lawsuit, here, now or in the future.”

This definitive vote by the St. Mary Parish Council proves that St. Mary Parish is committed to working with Louisiana’s oil and natural gas industry, not against it.

Earlier in September, after originally placing consideration of the settlement on the Parish Council agenda, St. Martin Parish reversed course and refused to consider this legal settlement move at all. This is all great news for the hundreds of thousands of people who depend on the industry everyday for their livelihoods.

The Grow Louisiana Coalition and our 110,000+ supporters thank our St. Mary and St. Martin Parish leaders for opposing this settlement scheme, standing up to lawsuits against the industry and showing parish residents that you stand with the oil and natural gas industry. This was a clear signal to industry opponents: St. Mary and St. Martin Parishes support jobs, not lawsuits.

We look forward to continuing our work so that other parishes may join St. Mary, St. Martin Vermilion, Terrebonne and Lafourche to voice strong support of our industry. Louisiana works when we work together.

Lawsuits not included.

Holden Hoggatt Touts His Endorsement by "Lions of Acadiana"

In what has to be the dumbest political move in his campaign to replace Rep. Clay Higgins of District 3 - LA, Holden Hoggatt is touting the endorsement of three “Lions of Acadiana”. Who do these lions consist of? None other than establishment politicians like Democrats John Breaux and Chris John and RINO Charles Boustany.

“Today I’m proud to receive the endorsement of leaders who ushered in historic prosperity for our families and businesses, and showed up for our families on good days and bad for more than 50 years of combined service in Congress,” Hoggatt said in news release.

Jeff Landry Officially Launches Campaign for Louisiana Governor

LAFAYETTE, LA — Today, Jeff Landry officially launched his campaign for Governor of Louisiana. In his video announcement, Landry shares his life story and starts a conversation with Louisiana voters about the problems facing our state and ways we can join together to fix them.

“We deserve a government as good as our people, and we’re not getting it,” Landry explained. “During my life, I have walked in the very shoes of people who struggle more than they should in a state as blessed as this one. We must join together to build the Louisiana we want, our neighbors need, and our children deserve.”

In the announcement video, Landry shares his personal history, not only as a former Congressman and current Attorney General, but growing up working in the sugar cane fields, serving our nation in uniform, and our communities as a police officer and Sheriff’s Deputy. Landry also discusses the need to tackle crime that has gripped Louisiana’s major cities and places the blame on failed local leadership driven by “woke” district attorneys.

“To the people in those cities, we care about you. We know you are good people living with a bad government. Your family deserves a safe neighborhood because when you hurt, our entire state hurts,” Landry added.

Landry also took time to highlight the crisis in our local schools where our children are pulled into social culture wars to score political points instead of being taught the basics, like reading, writing, and arithmetic.

“I believe the most important voice in a child’s education is the parents,” Landry said. “As the son of a schoolteacher, I think it’s a sin that, right now, seventy-four percent of our fourth graders can’t read the way they should, and nearly eighty percent of our eighth graders can’t do basic math. I’m angry that our children’s education isn’t a priority.”

Over the weeks and months to come, while continuing his service as Louisiana’s Attorney General, Landry will tour the state to meet with voters and local leaders to discuss their vision for Louisiana’s future.

KENNEDY: Democrats and White House Started the Defund and Disrespect the Police Movement

Sen. John Kennedy, LA, has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration and Democrats, in general, regarding the “defunding the police” movement. Just last month, his office released the following:

WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today addressed rising crime rates Americans are experiencing in the wake of Pres. Biden’s soft-on-crime policies.

Kennedy outlined the four steps needed to reduce crime in Louisiana and American communities:

- Hire more police officers.

- Keep police officers on the force.

- Get rid of prosecutors whose attitude is, “Hear no evil. See no evil. Prosecute no evil.”

- Stop disrespecting the police.

Key excerpts from Kennedy’s statement include:

“Long term, we can debate the solutions to crime, but short term, in my judgment, we have to do three things. Number one: We've got to hire more cops.”

“Number two: We're going to have to stop the retirements among our police officers. They're retiring in droves.”

“The third thing we need to do to get control of crime [won't] cost any money, but it may be the most difficult of all three of the things we have to do. We have to improve the morale of our cops, and that starts with our elected officials.

“But I think that if you talk to most moms and dad in this country, and ask them what are they worried about when they lie down to sleep at night and can’t, I don’t think they’re worried about proper pronoun usage. I don’t think they’re worried about the president’s war against oil production in America. I think they’re more worried about their job and the economy and inflation, and I think they’re worried about crime.”

“And you’re not going to get control of crime until you keep the cops you have, you add more cops and you stand behind your cops when they’re right, which is 99.9 percent of the time. And folks, that doesn’t cost money.

“…We have sent a breathtaking amount of money to state and local government. I mean, they’ve got more money now than they’ve ever had in their entire histories, adjusted for inflation. They’ve got the money to do this.”

View Kennedy’s complete remarks here.

Yesterday, while on Fox News, Kennedy continued on his focus on this issue by reiterating his stance on defunding and disrespecting of law enforcement.

Defending Election Integrity, AG Jeff Landry Calls for Repeal of Biden Executive Order

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is leading a 13-state coalition calling for Joe Biden to rescind his Executive Order 14019 which authorizes the executive branch to utilize all federal executive agencies’ power, resources, and reach to carry out voter registration and voter mobilization activities. The coalition’s opposition is based in law, noting that the U.S. Constitution does not provide this power to the executive branch and arguing that this responsibility falls on state legislatures.

“The government’s job is to provide an equal opportunity for all eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote, ensure that every legal vote is counted, and keep the process transparent and secure,” said Attorney General Landry. “It is not the government’s job to entice people to vote.”

In their letter to the President, Attorney General Landry and his colleagues explain that regulating the registration process has been a state legislative function and that Biden’s plan attempts to grant political appointees who lead the hundreds of federal agencies with offices across the country the power to intervene in elections in unprecedented ways.

What’s more: the letter highlights the real concern of third-party organizations improperly injecting themselves into the election process by using Biden’s Executive Order to circumvent state election laws. These federally-backed third party-organizations may create the appearance of corruption, thus undermining the integrity and public trust in elections.

Attorney General Landry, who fought successfully against this in the 2020 election cycle when the Center for Tech and Civil Life tried to inject private funds into the Louisiana election system, added: “Perhaps the most troubling aspect of the Executive Order is its command for federal agencies to support ‘approved’ third-party organizations as they conduct voter registration efforts by allowing them to do so on federal agency premises in states across the country.”

“The Executive Order provides no details as to which groups will be approved, who will approve them, and what criteria will be used for approval,” continued Attorney General Landry. “Obviously, there is a legitimate concern that only those groups aligned with the political party of the current administration, Joe Biden’s political party, will receive approval and be granted this unprecedented support and access.”

“The Executive Order appears to create a get-out-the-vote campaign that benefits one party over the other,” concluded Attorney General Landry. “I am proud to stand with my fellow attorneys general for election integrity and against this unethical, illegal, and unconstitutional Executive Order. We must protect our election system to ensure fair and transparent elections, untainted by undue influence.”

Joining Attorney General Landry in the letter are the attorneys general from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana,  Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah.

LOUISIANA FAMILY FORUM: Louisiana Lifts Vaccine Mandate for Students

In a win for religious liberty and medical freedom, the Louisiana Department of Health has finally repealed the COVID-19 shot mandate for students.

Some made the personal decision to take the COVID-19 shot and that’s their prerogative, but others have concerns about vaccine connections to aborted fetal tissue and the vaccine response, particularly myocarditis in young men.

There is no longer a COVID vaccine mandate for children to attend school in Louisiana!

Attorney General Jeff Landry and others have fought unjust mandates for a year now.

Landry issued this statement:

“Today is the culmination of hard work by so many concerned parents throughout Louisiana. This is the direct result of moms, dads, grandparents, and guardians fighting for what is right. I thank Representative Raymond Crews, Health Freedom Louisiana, the Bayou Mama Bears, Town Hall Baton Rouge, Children’s Health Defense, and all those from across Louisiana that stood with us for parental choice.”

“Child medical decisions should be made by their guardians, not the government. I hope this health freedom victory reminds everyone what can happen when we all work together. When citizens are engaged and get involved, their government will listen.”
