Louisiana Republicans Oppose Common Core

LAFAYETTE-February 26, 2015 -Ross Little, Jr., Louisiana’s Republican National  Committeeman announced today that the LAGOP adopted a resolution calling for the Repeal of Common Core.  The resolution was adopted overwhelmingly on Saturday, February 21, at the first State Republican meeting of 2015.

The Resolution was sponsored by Little of Lafayette and co-Sponsored by State Rep. Lenar Whitney of Houma, both of whom serve on the Republican National Committee, together with several other members of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee.

“We’ve been meeting with numerous legislators since September,” said Little, “and we are hopeful that the legislature will repeal Common Core in the upcoming legislative session. “

The Republican Resolution calls on legislators, BESE members and others to promote State and local control of public schools and to resist federal intrusion into education policymaking by a full repeal of the CCSSI.   The resolution asks that the repeal be made “by any and all means necessary, including action by the Louisiana Legislature, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the State Superintendent of Education, the Governor and any other officials.”

The resolution commended parents and activists in the state and across the nation  for reclaiming our heritage of citizen-directed government, supporting education choices for academic freedom and individual excellence in a free market model rather than a “one size fits all” approach to education that is being promoted in the CCSSI.

SCOTT ANGELLE AND COMMON CORE

If you want to find someone that will continue the legacy of Bobby Jindal, you will find that person in Scott Angelle.  Jindal was an advocate of Common Core and was instrumental in the implementation while in a leadership position in the National Governors Association.  Scott Angelle was also instrumental in getting Common Core passed within the legislature.

While Scott Angelle, candidate for Governor, recently announced that he is opposed to “Common Core “……he said absolutely nothing about whether Louisiana kids should be required to take the PARCC test….OR be subjected to invasive data mining/sharing .

BUDDY CALDWELL AND THE LEVEE BOARD LAWSUIT

On Feb. 13, U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown ruled in favor of dismissing a lawsuit filed over a year and a half ago on behalf of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority–East (SLFPA–E), a regional levee authority, by New Orleans-based law firm Jones, Swanson, Huddell & Garrison, that accused nearly 100 oil, pipeline and energy companies of contributing to coastal land loss.

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell was vehemently in favor of this lawsuit and, in turn, hired outside counsel in an attempt to fan the flames of those in his political circle.  This has shown itself to be nothing more than another attempt by a liberal Democrat shrouded in Republican clothing of trying to use his political influences and gaining favors at the expense of the taxpayers in Louisiana.

A recent post in the Washington Examiner stated “the litigation contract brokered between SLFPA–E and Jones has been controversial from the beginning with many questioning the SLFPA–E’s legal standing to bring such a lawsuit and Louisiana Attorney General James “Buddy” Caldwell absorbing some of the criticism for signing off on SLFPA–E’s ability to hire outside counsel.”  The same piece states that Jones has a reputation going after “legacy lawsuits” against oil and gas interests and making million on such lawsuits.

It is apparent that Caldwell has nothing but personal interests involved in his decisions regarding these legacy lawsuits and has chosen to utilize his office in a manner inconsistent of that of a public servant and more of one that has committed malfeasance in office.

LANDRY OUTRAISES CALDWELL BY NEARLY $750,000

The following was received in email format regarding fundraising goals that have been reached by the Landry campaign for Louisiana Attorney General.

Last week, we learned more about the Attorney General’s race.

As you may have seen in the news, I raised over $760,000 last year. My campaign ended 2014 with over $1 million in the bank.

My opponent, Mr. Caldwell, raised $39,000 in all of last year. He ended with only $300k in the bank after fundraising for several years.

Why? Because Louisiana citizens want an Attorney General who is ethical, honest, and truly conservative.

People are tired of politicians who have been in office a lifetime and only go with the political winds to stay in office.

I registered as a Republican at the age of 18 because I believe in our Party. I served in Congress because I wanted to stop Obama and Pelosi’s destructive policies. I am pro-life, pro-gun, pro-jobs, and anti-debt.

Mr. Caldwell was a lifelong Democrat who may have changed parties but has not changed who he really is. Last year, Caldwell endorsed Mary Landrieu for re-election. He is part of the old Buddy network in Louisiana. Watch this video to see how Caldwell spends our tax dollars to reward personal backers.

There is a real difference between Caldwell and me. And with this election being so critical for Louisiana, it is incredibly important that I earn your support.

DAVID VITTER RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT ATTORNEY GENERAL NOMINEE’S HANDLING OF MONEY LAUNDERING CASE IN NEW YORK

Just like every other candidate that is nominated for administration posts by Obama, there is more smell the deeper you dig.  Same holds true to Lynch, the Attorney General nominee, who has significant questions to answer concerning her handling of a money laundering scheme involving Mexican drug cartels.  This woman does not deserve to be rushed through the process, by either party, without a thorough vetting process that is due for a post such as the Attorney General of the US.

“If Loretta Lynch and DOJ swept under the rug serious money laundering scheme involving Mexican drug cartels and terrorist organizations, we need to know a heck of a lot more about it,” Vitter said. “This is especially true since American citizens may be completely unaware that their identities — including names and social security numbers — were compromised in this fraud. A simple monetary fine is the equivalent of a slap on the wrist, and would cast serious doubt on Ms. Lynch’s capacity to serve as our top law enforcement official.”

LANDRY OUTRAISES INCUMBENT CALDWELL IN ATTORNEY GENERAL RACE

Caldwell’s report shows him raising $39,000 in 2014, ending the year with $302,000 in the bank.

Landry brought in more than $766,000 in donations for the same period. Coupled with a $392,000 personal loan, Landry reported having more than $1 million in his campaign account.

DAVID VITTER TAKES ON FEMA ON BEHALF OF VICTIMS OF DISASTER

It’s a shame when a mistake made by the federal government almost a decade ago will haunt taxpayers who have done nothing fraudulent on their part.  It is refreshing to see at least one person in Washington stand up to the feds.  With the amount of waste that is created on a daily basis in Washington on other activities, the Obama administration needs to focus their attention elsewhere.  FEMA has become nothing more than another bureaucracy that has become a bullying arm of this administration.

“All these cases we’re talking about, are my definition, FEMA mistakes and FEMA screw-ups.  And then they’re trying to go after people, and again, in virtually every case.  This money is spent on legitimate purposes, so this means that people in a hole would have to borrow money in a desperate situation to try to come up with these dollars that FEMA is going after,” said Senator David Vitter.

REAL LEADERSHIP

Despite the feeble and leadership-deficient President that we have here in the United States, Israel has Netanyahu who is not afraid to stand up against Islamic terrorism and use the allies that stand with Israel in Congress. In this video, he outlined the reasons for coming to America and addressing Congress next month.

Real leadership. Something we definitely lack.

JEFF LANDRY FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

Republicans have a critical election in Louisiana this year.

I am not talking about the Governor’s race – although that is important.  I am talking about our state’s next Attorney General.

Right now Louisiana has an Attorney General who spent nearly his entire lifetime as a Democrat and only became a Republican for the sole purpose of trying to hold onto his taxpayer-funded job.

He has been called out by news media across our state, including in an investigative report on WWL TV in New Orleans, for unethical practices like giving huge state contracts to his campaign contributors – paying them millions for work that could have been done by his office.

He attacked the oil and gas industry which employs thousands of our neighbors, and he continues to do so by supporting legacy lawsuits that cripple our vital energy lifeline.  

He told a national, liberal blog that Obamacare didn’t go far enough because there was not enough government control.

And our Attorney General, liberal Buddy Caldwell, endorsed Mary Landrieu for re-election last year.

Need I say more?

Simply put, we need a real Republican to serve as Attorney General of Louisiana.

Serving our nation in uniform, I received commendations for my eleven years of service in the Louisiana National Guard. I am an attorney who has worked across our state helping job creators grow Louisiana’s economy. Prior to law school at Loyola, I helped start and run a successful small business – employing people in our state.

I served as a Sheriff’s Deputy and as a Police Officer, in addition to being an attorney, so I understand law enforcement first hand.

Unlike almost everyone in my home Parish, I took a stand when I registered as a Republican at the age of 18.  I believed then, as I believe now, that our Party – the Republican Party – is the Party of freedom, families, conservative values, and economic opportunity.  I served as a Delegate to the Republican State Convention and served on the Platform Committee.  When I saw no one else stepping up, I re-established a Republican Parish Executive Committee. 

When I saw the destructive policies coming from Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi – I decided it was time to step up and serve my nation once again. 

I ran for Congress, won, and defended our values in the United States House of Representatives.

And although my old Congressional District did not survive redistricting when we lost a seat in our state, I proved that speaking out and fighting for what you believe could work in government.

I was named the 4th most conservative Member of the entire U.S. Congress. The national Washington Examiner newspaper called me “the only honest man in Washington” for standing up for our principles.

I fought the oil and gas moratorium that harmed Louisiana’s economy… and I sent the message which is still true today that DRILLING EQUALS JOBS. I truly opposed Obamacare.  And I proved I was a real fiscal conservative by saving hundreds of thousands of dollars from my office budget… and you know what I did… I returned it to the taxpayers.

I declined special Congressional healthcare and retirement benefits.  If you don’t get special benefits as a citizen, I don’t need them as an elected official.

Now I see a need, along with many other strong Republicans, for a new Attorney General here in Louisiana.

Sen. David Vitter has picked up a significant endorsement today in his bid to become the next Governor of Louisiana.  Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has stated in an email sent out from Sen. Vitter’s office that he has endorsed Vitter in that race.  Wordage of the endorsement is as follows:

OBAMA’S BUDGET BLOWS A HUGE HOLE IN LOUISIANA’S OWN BUDGET

As if the State of Louisiana did not have enough budgetary issues at hand, with Obama’s proposed budget, we as a state stand to lose millions of dollars in revenue from offshore oil rigs.

The Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act, or GOMESA, requires the federal government to distribute to Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, 37.5 percent of the money it collects from offshore oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. 

Our Senator, David Vitter, said in a statement released on Monday: 

“The President’s budget plan to funnel the Gulf states’ offshore energy revenue out of those states is incredibly insulting to Louisianians. In Louisiana, federal revenue from offshore energy activity goes directly to coastal restoration. Our coasts are the first line of defense to a hurricane or tropical storm; plus, they represent a critical part of our ecosystem. We’re losing large amounts of coastline every day, and funding our coastal restoration projects is incredibly important,” said Vitter.

The article from The Washington Post identifies the following information from the budget:

Funds will instead be directed to programs that offer broader natural resource, watershed, and conservation benefits for the entire Nation, help the Federal government fulfill its role of being a good neighbor to local communities, and support other national priorities.

Obama’s administration is yet again using money that has a specific intent and purpose in his grand scheme of “redistribution.”

REPORT: COMMON CORE ‘INAPPROPRIATE’ FOR KINDERGARTEN

As a father of a child in second grade, I can attest to this quote.  My daughter is frightened of math and the stresses that it puts on her and has also mentioned that she feels like she’s failing and that we, as her parents, are “not proud” of her.  Our focus should be on letting kids be kids and tailor a learning curriculum around the age appropriateness of the child rather than some standardized teaching tool.

“What kids are losing is as detrimental as the stress being put on them,” she said. “They’re not ready. When you ask even an adult to do something they’re struggling with they think they’re inadequate. Kids are going to assume it’s their fault.”

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY INVITES JEREMIAH WRIGHT TO LOUISIANA

After the absolute uproar over the prayer rally held last weekend that was sponsored by the American Family Radio and promoted by Gov. Bobby Jindal, will the radical left say anything about this?

During his 36 years as the Pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois, Wright preached sermons filled with anti-white, anti-Jew and anti-American messages. He claimed that America’s "chickens" were coming home to roost after the 9/11 attacks. In a 2003 sermon, he thundered that the government "wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people."
